EUROPA DONNA Parliament
All national political organisations in Italy are involved in public breast cancer initiatives.
EUROPA DONNA Parliament, a working group that comprises the Italian Forum of EUROPA DONNA and the Italian women members of Parliament, is an organisation whose aim is to maintain contact with institutional representatives, local health authorities, scientific directors, hospital administration, etc. It uses congresses and press conferences to promote the many issues facing women with breast cancer.
Owing to the progressive regionalisation of the health services in Italy, EUROPA DONNA Parliament has promoted the creation of Regional Committees (Gruppi di riferimento regionale – GRR) to carry out specific initiatives to confront the problems identified in each district.
The organisation has made a number of significant achievements:
Lobbying the Italian government to pass new measures to fight against breast cancer.
A Hygiene and Health Committee investigation into the effects of heavy smoking on cancer.
The production of a DVD, “How to protect the breast – a premature cancer diagnosis”, sponsored by the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers and by the Minister of Equal Opportunities.
A booklet, “Breast cancer and safeguarding women workers”, produced by the Minister for Work and Social Policy.
