Belgian Interparliamentary Group on Breast Cancer
The Belgian Interparliamentary Group on Breast Cancer was created in October 2005 out of a strong commitment to fight a disease that affects 7,000 women nationwide each year. Today, it is the largest all-party group in the Belgian Parliament with 61 members. The group’s main objective is to work beyond political boundaries to co-ordinate the initiatives taken by legislators in the area of breast cancer. Its efforts have contributed to the implementation of a mammography screening programme in women aged 50-69 years, as stipulated in the European guidelines. It has various ongoing initiatives such as the creation of its interparliamentary group website. The group meets four times a year.
The Interparliamentary Group has two chairs: Senator François Roelants du Vivier and Magda De Meyer MP.
