United Kingdom - All Party Parliamentary Group on Breast Cancer
Established in 1996-97, this is one of the most active groups in the UK Parliament. Its stated objectives are to:
1. Raise issues on breast cancer with government and other policy makers
2. Provide a forum for MPs and Peers of all political parties to discuss breast cancer-related issues
3. Take action on behalf of people with breast cancer
The Group has recently been instrumental in ensuring that all women can be HER-2 tested to establish whether they will benefit from Herceptin and in encouraging up-take of invitations to the NHS Screening Programme. In recent years the Group was also instrumental in pushing for the extension of the NHS Breast Screening Programme to include women up to the age of 70.
